Hi Aurora,
My main web focus is in the foodiesphere, but I love to do web design stuff on the side, freelance of course.

I have been researching personal branding and web presence lately – I am trying to help out an non-profit organization , which is a bit reluctant to jump on the ‘virtual’ bandwagon. I am getting together a presentation, to help demistify & maybe help guide them.

I have browsed over dozens of popular blogs and most posts focus on a single website service, or report on things that are pretty obvious.

Your post ,though ‘design’ geared, is one of the most thorough, to-the-point posts I have read on branding. These tips, edited a bit for a specific industry could apply to anyone.

I especially liked #5, the ’skeleton-in-the-closet’ point, this is one of the easiest ways to isolate yourself in the socialsphere when networking.

Kudos! I have bookmarked this post for future reference.

Marko’s stuff kicks ass. I started to read Thor comics mostly for an eyeful of his work. The shot of Thor walking away from the floating Asgard is one of the best comic covers I have seen.
P.S. Alex Ross is a hack. This guy is a genius.

Haha. Interesting set of comments here. I truly think this guy’s work is magical. Agree with Thor — I’d like to see a list of characters.

All of the colors work well together, making each photo more intense. It’s brilliant.

My professor/mentor always said “Art is communication. The more that you know about the subject of your artwork, the better you can illustrate (communicate) it to your intended viewer(s)”.

This goes double when you want to combine reality and fantasy in one piece.

Still, visual communication at it’s best is both visually stunning AND communicates well.

Which piece or pieces do you like best for their communication of thoughts or ideas?

That was a great collection of art. Only thing is, I wish there were titles, or at least a list of the characters in each picture, or what comic book title it is from. Maybe some one knows who the guy with the two 9mm’s and a red cape is, or the shaman looking guy?

One thing I can’t figure out is, who was that guy with the hammer? ;)

People who are comparing Marko to Alex Ross have no idea of who Marko is? He is a self taught artist from Germany, who in early years of this decade took gaming industry by storm working with Massive Black Inc. in SF. He has been there done it all and now he does these covers after returning to his home town back in Germany. He is a legendary concept artist who is a lot different from Alex Ross. The common link between the two can be, that he too shuns the overgrown anatomical approach towards character design associated with comic book illustrations. The sheer attention to detail and beautiful compositions say it all. I’ve been following his work for years now… and Alex Ross’s for even more… and this is the first time I have heard a comparison between the two.

The one thing I hate about art is having your work compared to another artist. Your work is your own and whoever you might have or might not have referenced it is still yours no matter what. You have an amazing talent and I hope it takes you far. Great Job!

I think packaging is the first marketing tool. Much like in the case of when looking for a guy, u want one who displays a good overall image.

Therefore, Packaging is crucial. If 1 product is not as good as another yet the packaging is better. If i don’t know that product, i will choose it over the other one because of the selling aspect of packaging.

The packages above are breathtaking. Think about it. Why do we keep perfume boxes/ bottles after use? Yes, u said it because of the design and the package attractiveness

Very impressive. My one complaint is the arrow in the 10th-to-last image. What does he suppose is going to happen when he tries to draw that bow more than about 8 inches?
