I’m an freelance/ “wanna-be” concept artist working my butt off at trying to get into the field. I’ve always mused about getting business cards, but never felt I was in a position to deserve any. I am currently trying to jumpstart my career and what better way than to hand a potential employee a business card after an interview? I have several ideas hopping about in my head, I’ll have to settle on a design if I were to win. I’ll make sure to make up something tonight!

Right now, I don’t think I need to promote myself. But maybe in the future… So I’d write on the business cards: remember me, I might become useful!

  3. Darryl Says:

I have been looking to do business cards for awhile, free ones would give me that push to start pursuing some income from design and help break away from the corporate work i do now, need to live life a little sometimes. good luck to all.

I am a startup Freelancer right now, I’m a little low on cash at the time, and thats why I need some business cards :)

I would love 500 free postcard sized cards to promote my first two exhibitions ever! I earned a spot in a juried show in October as part of New Haven, Connecticut’s City-Wide Open Studios Program, which is a huge state-wide event. I would love to pass out promotional cards to invite visitors to my solo show in New London, CT in February, and visit my website/blog. New Haven has a booming art scene and CWOS is the biggest event of the year to showcase our talents. When I started my (unpaid) internship at an art gallery this summer I made hand silkscreened business cards because I couldn’t afford to have any printed. (http://faux-beau.com/journal/?p=76) Hopefully I wont have to resort to this method again for promoting my first two exhibitions!

  6. David Leggett Says:

I’m still using business card from nearly 4 years ago without outdated email addresses, branding… well, outdated everything really. It’s gotten to the point where I’m so embarrassed about them being incorrect, that I won’t even hand them out to potential clients. I’ll sooner write my name and email on a napkin then hand them out (and that’s not a statement to elaborate about how bad my old cards are — but something I really do).

At any rate, I’ve been lazy about getting new ones printed, but I would definitely put this prize to good use if I’m selected the winner.

Nice contest Youri :) Loving those collections you posted.

I am a student, studying graphic design and have just paid off my student fees. I enjoy incorporating origami elements into my designs. I have included some images to show how I have made an origami style business card.

This first image shows the business card folded just showing my name. The image above is a business card to show the size difference.

    Image 1

The second image shows the business card unfolded. The ‘James Geo’ reveals my website and the ‘orge Dunn’ shows my name again. My contact number is shown but is hidden when the card is folded.

    Thanks for reading! Regards,

    James George.

  10. David Ayllon Says:

Hi. My name is David. I’m a graphic design major beginning my senior year of school. This is the year I really need to get myself out there. I currently have a logo and business card design all ready to go. It’s actually the size of a playing card to match the theme of my logo (You should see my grin when I hand them out, I’m like a child sometimes). Since I’m only a student, however, I have to buy the card stock, buy adhesive paper, X-acto my fingers off, stick it together (printing on both sides of the sheet is about as cooperative as Winehouse in rehab)…it’s just a huge hassle for when I go on interviews. And forget about passing them out to people I happen to meet. I have to treat them like rations during wartime. It is extremely time consuming, and getting some free business cards would be the best gift ever in the history of evers. I even have a link to a sample image of everything all put together. It’s not that I’m lazy, I’m actually quite ambitious. I’m just a lowly college student that needs to eat every once in a while.

  11. DRG Says:

I am a single professional guy in his late 30s living in Washington, DC. This summer I signed up for the It’s Just Lunch professional dating service. The service sets up us single people on blind dates where we only know the first name of our date and a few basic facts about them. At the end of the date if we are interested in pursing the relationship the procedure is to exchange business cards.

My corporate card does not reflect me as an individual and I expect to change jobs shortly. I need personal cards for these dates and to hand out to other people I meet socially.

At the moment I am thinking a simple yet elegant card with my name, e-mail, and cell number. I am flirting with the idea of playing off my “job” as a SWM but honestly most of the single women in this town don’t have great senses of humor.

  12. Amy Says:

    Hi designfeedr!

My name is Amy. I work for a company as a web designer and I also work freelance. I just backed into my neighbour’s car and I cannot afford business cards to promote myself. I also do a lot of work for non-profits and whatnot so sometimes what I make is not very much. I like to be able to help others with my work.

I have a diploma in Multimedia Production and Design, a Diploma of Web Development, and my Web Designer’s certification… so these cards will NOT be wasted! I would be so very grateful.

I would print little inspiring and nice messages to brighten up someones day, and stick them all over the place. :D

  14. Jeremy Says:

…Because the last time I spent some money on some online printshop, the quality sucked…
If I can test them before sending more requests, that would be cool!

  15. Scott Pollard Says:

I would have A0 sized 300gsm gold foil block with embossed lettering on craft stock with edge printing and edition numbers lazer cut on each one. Maybe some spot varnish also?

Its all about the finishing ;)

Free business cards that’s crazy, 1000 that’s like taking candy from a baby, and the are fully customizable, this is a great services

  17. Joel S. Says:

For the past five years I’ve been working a desk job that’s only tangentially related to design, and my web development portfolio is so obviously circa 1999-2003 that it’s embarrassing. I need something that will leave people with a good impression of my capabilities.

I’m also an introvert with incredibly low self-esteem. I convince myself (before ever talking to a potential client) that nobody would want to hire me. I suck at talking to people on the phone, so my only chance to drum up business is to talk to potential clients in-person. Snazzy business cards would give me the huge confidence boost I need to even try to get my foot in the door.

I’d buy them myself, but I talked my wife into agreeing to spend our economic stimulus check on a 24″ iMac for me, and she’s not going along with any more purchases until I get some business. I want design clients, but not if it means she’ll make me sleep on the couch for the next two months.

  18. Bre Says:

I am a student about to graduate in a few weeks with a degree in web design. Just 4 days after that I’ll be moving to a brand new town with no known contacts. New snazzy business cards would be a great help in putting my self out there. Especially cards that are different and stand out. The moving process is expensive and so are bad ass business cards, free awesome business cards would be a big help.

  19. Mary Says:

What a cool contest! I am actively seeking employment and realize how important it is to come up with a different angle so that you have an edge and will stand out in a crowd. I believe that having a unique, unusual business card would help someone remember me from the hundreds applying for the same job I am. I don’t know what kind of design I would use, but an unusual size or some kind of art deco would be fantastic.

  20. Lorna Marrison Says:

Quality business cards with my illustrations are admired and kept. I have found them to be the most effective form of advertising.

  21. Sleepy Hero Says:

I need a business card to go along with my new web design website. I am planning to use the business cards to give to potential clients when I go visit them and talk about making them a website.

    Thanks

  22. Mike Albuquerque Says:

I’m a student about to hit the industry with a pretty good portfolio but no money for business cards. They’d help a lot ;-)

    thanks

  23. Daniel Cavalcante Says:

First, I’m a graphic designer in desperate need of clients.

My idea is to make card based in viral marketing for extended efficiency: the card would have my contact information written a dozen times separated by finely punctured lines, allowing people to “break it apart” and divide my info with others. :)

  24. miros Says:

hi, i have a little freaky company of tshirts and i love to have a freaky business card to impact all my clients that always seetradicional cars. My logo is a mushroom and i want to use it to impact and show a crazy card is what i want. I prefer something unusual like use pop up ideas

  25. devian Says:

I just graduated from college in the design field, moved, followed by a marriage. I’m just now getting my web identity revamped, creating a portfolio. With a complete new location, I need all the exposure that I can get, especially now that I’m just getting my feet wet in the industry. The business cards would be a huge help in gaining contacts and exposure and hopefully pursue a solid list of clientel.

  26. Davy Delbeke Says:

Hi, I’m Davy, a freelance webdesigner student from Belgium. I am need for some business cards because I need more projects. The thing is, I want to use the money, to buy a trip to New York for me and my girlfriend on Christmas Eve ( it’s still a suprise though so shhhhhhht ;-) ).

My idea for my business card is the look of an old picture, very grunge-like. And at the back I would draw and write my logo and my contact info..

  27. Mandy Says:

I’ve been a designer for years, but started making bows for my daughter and her friend when they started school. I see opportunities every day to promote myself, but don’t have anything to show or give people I see out and about. I know if I had a business card with at least one picture on it, I would be getting a barrage of business. I’ve looked into free business cards, but there aren’t any I can put a picture on. Anyway, I know this is a day late, but I just returned from hurricane evacuation, so I need to drum up some business now more than ever to pay for our unplanned excursion!

  28. Amy Says:

Have you chosen a winner yet? :D I am anxious to see who you chose ;)

    Good luck everyone!

  29. patel Says:

I am a freelance web designer. By freelance, I mean small-time looking for the next big gig.

I am currently a student and design marketing materials on the side as a hobby. I have received allocates for my work, even doing projects for Fortune 500 companies and nonprofit organizations.

All the money I earn goes back to pay for school. But I also like designing work for nonprofit organizations for free. This includes websites, logos, posters, etc. I actually think these clients are the most fun as they are open to creativity.

I would like free business cards to promote my business on the college campus where I meet most of the nonprofits that I work for. Most of my paying clients are actually students who own businesses. That said I use only word-of-mouth advertising. Business cards would obviously go a long way to allowing me to reach more clients via offline advertising.

With business cards I can reach more clients and nonprofits.

  30. orhan Says:

im running a body shop new in the business and i need more advertise.if i have the cards i will live them in the local busines receptions so people can see them.thanks

  31. Youri Says:

First off I’d like to apologize to everyone for being so late with the results of the contest. I’ve recently moved to a temporary place and at the very last moment my internet provider informed me I can’t get internet there - ever. It seems the necessary cables aren’t there. Nothing to do but hang on until I move into my final home…A bloggers worst nightmare I tell you.

Now on to the contest. Before I announce the winners I’d like to shout out a big THANK YOU to all those that commented!

Here are the two winners decided by me and Uprinting:

    1. Amy
The combination of crashing into your neighbor’s car and working non-profit sounds difficult. Hope the cards can give you a nice boost.

    2. Joel S
For your honesty, and because the wife situation sounds strangely familiar;) Enjoy the cards.

Both of you can expect to be mailed by a Uprinting employee in the coming days that will explain how you can proceed. Be sure to send a pic of the final result over!

  32. Amy Says:

Holy Cow! I never win anything! hahah. Thank you so much! I will definitely show off the finished product!!!

I’m assuming you have to be in the US to qualify? Getting decent business cards in the south of Taiwan is proving to be a tad more than a “challenge”.

  35. yoxx Says:

if i want a business card, i will choose the most simple color, less fonts but more attractive layout and material. thats so my customer always remember me.
